Nobody will want to lend you money if you have bad credit. Banks and some lenders can be nervous about giving you a loan if you have bad credit since they are not certain you can pay the loan back. By having a highly regarded credit rating, you are able to show that you care about money and intend to repay any money that is borrowed. A bad credit score for you means that the chances of you getting a decent interest rate will be much less, even if the loan you apply for is approved. However, you don't need to give up altogether. You can increase your credit score in a short time by doing certain things.

Start by paying all bills on time. Be sure to know when your bills are due and pay them on time as that will be a huge factor on your credit report. 30 days or more of missed payment deadlines could devastate your credit score, and you credit report will maintain this information for 6 years. Even just making your minimum payments on time will increase your credit score.

Paying down what you owe is the next way for you raise your credit limit. Having money available to you is an indication that you don't spend foolishly, and that is why banks will be willing to give you more money if this is so. Too much debt can also lower your credit score, so if you would like to raise your credit score, try making a few decent sized payments to lower your debt. Try to avoid applying for a lot of money during a short time period. The idea is to wait 2 years at least to request a loan. However, if you try to quickly apply for a large amount of money, your credit score could be lowered and potential lenders might be turned off to you.

One of the things to keep in mind before undertaking this journey is credit scores will not inflate over a short period of time. You must build your credit report over time, through consistent responsible management of your money. It will require diligence and patience to improve your credit score, and you may not see any major improvements until 6 months or a year of trying. Over time, making on time payments, will give greater results so make sure you are consistent and you will see your credit score slowly rising.
