How to Increase Your On-Page SEO

By

On-page and off-page SEO are the two important factors of search engine optimization and by taking these two factors into consideration and optimizing them to their fullest capacity, your website will increase in ranking. There are many on-page elements including page metadata, page title, headers, image alt tag, breadcrumb navigation, internal links and body text. In this article, I will describe how to optimize the main on-page aspects to increase your SEO.

Choosing a domain name:

Search engines are mainly looking for specific keywords when it comes to domain names. We can describe this with an example. Suppose you have a website whose domain name is ‘how-to-make-money-online.com.’ If people search for “how to make money online”, search engines see your website as a direct match and therefore show it on the search results page. As you can see, it is advisable to put your keyword(s) in your domain name.

Submitting your website URL to search engines:

In order to increase your on-page SEO ranking, you can submit your URL to search engines like Bing, Yahoo, and of course, Google. You can add your URL to search engines via Google’s webmaster tools and can add your site URL to other search engines like Yahoo.

But the methods mentioned above are not effective all the time, nor are they effective immediately. This is, however an important step to increasing your on-page SEO.

Page title:

Title tag is very important; it appears on the search engine page in the list results. Your title tag attracts targeted traffic to your website and brings your site at the top of the search results page on a certain optimized keyword. If your page title matches what people have typed into the search box, they will probably click on your site, so be sure it is keyword optimized and highly relevant. Try not to repeat the keywords again and again in your website content and try to keep your webpage title short.

Meta description tag

The Meta description tag basically describes your website’s content and provides the search engines a short summary of what your site is about. It is good to make your keyword description concise and neat for search engines.

Meta keywords tag

Unfortunately, I do not believe that Google gives a great deal (if any) importance to Meta keyword tags when it comes to search engine optimization. There are other, more useful ways to spend your time optimizing your page than working at these tags.

Page Body

You need to be very careful about your page body because this is the main component of your website. You can include the breadcrumb navigation, body text, heading tags, internet links and alt tag. Try to make your keyword density between 2% and 5% in your content, so that it is enough to be properly optimized for those particular keywords, but you aren’t repeating the keyword(s) so many times that Google thinks of your website as a spam site.
