Lots of people have many misconceptions when it comes to niche marketing. One reason of this confusion is that people try to compare traditional retail business with niche marketing. The internet has made niche marketing really easy so that even if you are an amateur, you can still get very good results with niche marketing. There is no doubt many that aspects of retail business and niche marketing are very similar, but there are lots of differences as well. Remember, competition is necessary for both types of businesses and if you want to get into a niche you have to realize that there are pros and cons of both competitive and non competitive.

Low Competition Niche

Maybe new niche marketers feel happy to the prospect of zero or little competition in niche marketing. It means that you will stand out and they will want to buy from you first because you are at the top of the game. Isn’t it good to have a few buyers that can buy directly from you? Well look at the other side, less competition means a dead market and a dead market can seriously crash your business because there is no one that wants what it is you are selling.

Pros:

Because of no competition, buyers will easily find you and if it’s an untapped market then you can be a trendsetter as well.

Cons:

It’s possible that the niche you’ve picked is so unpopular; no one will buy from you even if you are the only seller around. If you are selling cactuses in the desert, even if no one else is selling them, you still won’t get a lot of buyers, if any.

High Competition Niche

Lots of people fear that entering into a highly competitive market will bring them complete failure of their internet business. Quite the contrary, it can be quite rewarding to get into a competitive niche market.

Pros:

There is always a good opportunity to make money since it is such an in-demand market, and you get to work alongside people who have made it big, who might be able to help you along the way. You will not only learn how to compete in a competitive niche market but you will also learn how to take some risks as well. Getting in a competitive niche will help you to learn so many new things that will be helpful for your affiliate marketing business as well.

Cons:

One of the downsides of getting into a competitive niche market is just that; it’s very competitive. You have to be at the top of your game to get any sales and less experienced marketers might not be up to the challenge. It may take you a little longer to establish yourself. Because of the tough competition that is going on in the niche, it will be difficult for the buyer to find you.

The best way to survive in a competitive niche market is to do quality research about the niche that you are planning to get in. If you will not spend considerable time doing research about your market so that you can get a good angle and offer something unique, then you might not be able to make any money at all.

In conclusion, competitive niche markets are definitely a challenge to break into, but once you do, the rewards are astounding.
